KScope 18 Speaker Award

Hey guys how are you?

It has been awhile since last time I wrote anything here…. and surprise, surprise, it’s because I’m crazy working in a project that was sized small but turn out huge and the size didn’t change…. šŸ™‚ never happened before heheheh šŸ˜‰

This is just a small post to tell how grateful and happy we are for receiving theĀ EPM Data Integration Speaker AwardĀ in Kscope 18 with the presentation:Ā How to Use Your ODI On-Premise to Seamlessly Integrate PBCS.

We start this blog in 2012 and we have been presenting at Kscope since 2013 and it has been very rewarding, not only because we become Oracle ACEs because of this, but because every single post or presentation we learn a lot with it.

When you do a presentation you need to stop to think in a solution for a specif project and start to thinking in a solution that can be used to all projects. This alone is a challenge, but the amount of thing we learn is a great deal. We can easily said that our code improved a lot since 2012 when we began with this blog and it’s in great part because of this blog and our presentations.

Then we thank you all of you that read our blog (even if we don’t post as much as we would like), to everybody that goes to KScope and decide to watch our presentations and to ODTUD that provide this bi-lateral learning platform.

Thank you all of you for supporting us and see you soon.

KScope 18! It’s a wrap.

That’s it guys, one more year of KScope finished successfully.

This year was a big one for us since we had 3 sessions, one lunch and panel and one lip-sync battle…. that we lost… but was a lot of fun (way better than I thought it would be).

The sessions were great and we are very proud to receive theĀ Top Speaker Awards forĀ EPM Data IntegrationĀ track with the sessionĀ How to Use Your ODI On-Premise to Seamlessly Integrate PBCS.

This means a lot to us since we are always worried about our speeches because our marvelous English and our subtle accent (I sound like a famous robot from the future “Come with me if you want to live….”), then we always try to compensate with the content.

And this year I think we made it. We’ll try very hard to keep the content this interesting. We always try, but some times what is interesting for us is not for others. Would be very nice if you guys leave comments with thing you would like to see in our presentation or blogs.

Thank you very much for all people that attended our sessions and look forward to see you next year!

Thanks

KScope 17 Abstract submission deadline is approaching fast!!!!

Posted in ACE, Kscope, Kscope 17 with tags , on October 3, 2016 by RZGiampaoli

Hello guys how are you doing?

This will be a quick post, in fact it’ll be a question and a reminder. Let’s start with the question:

What do you guys think about adding a little bit of excitement in your lives and a lot of knowledge and friendship as a side effect? How? This will be your life if you decide to share a little bit of your knowledge with your fellow developers at KScope 17.

Looks scary but it isn’t at all (at least after the first time šŸ™‚ or second… heheh). Everybody in KScope is so receptive and friendly, basically everybody is having a great time and learning a lot doing so.

And don’t even think something like ā€œahhh but everybody there areĀ ACEs… and knows a lotā€ or ā€œI need to be well-known so myĀ abstract pass the cutā€ or even ā€œI’m not good enoughā€ and other things like this because we are the proof that anybody can make it.

Think about it…. 2 guys from Brazil (that means, English is an issue šŸ™‚Ā and we know that), nobody never ever know even that we were alive, we had, at that time, justĀ created our blog and we never went to any international conference before (than we didn’t know what expect)….

If this is not scary I don’t know what it is….

But even so we submit an abstract (and reading it today I can’t realize how Cameron figured out what in hell we were talking about there…..) but the important thing is that they give us a chance and since then, we areĀ presenting at KScope, learning how to and trying to improve every time.

Ok but you can think ā€œWhat I’ll gain with that! It’s a lot of work!!!ā€

Well, it’s a lot of work, but, and this is true for a blog too, after you start to share your knowledge you start to think way ahead you normally do, mainly because you cannot think in a local solution anymore, you need to think in how to make it useful for everybody. And this improves a lot your horizons and the capability to design and create solutions.

Also, you’ll be always trying to do something new because you need material for the next year šŸ™‚Ā and the next year arrives very fast šŸ™‚Ā it’s almost a nonstop process. You submit your abstract, wait for the results, prepare your material, get ready to present, go to KScope and present you session, fly back and start to think about what you’ll present next year, prepare the new abstract and so on…

And if you are a manager and is thinking how to improve your team performance….. motivate them to submit sessions to KScope or write a blog. I can guarantee the results for both, the team and the career development.

Now for the reminderĀ šŸ™‚Ā deadline for submit abstracts to KScope is getting near. You have until Oct-14 to submit your summary and abstract. Don’t need to be huge or anything like this. It just needs to be interesting and I’m sure you’ll change your life :).

Thanks guys and see you at KScope 17, the lair of knowledge and fellowship šŸ™‚

DEVEPM on ODTUG’s Technical Journal – Unleashing Hyperion Planning Security Using ODI

Posted in ACE, EPM, Hyperion Planning, InfraStructure, Kscope 14, ODI, Technical Journal with tags , , , , , , on April 22, 2015 by Rodrigo Radtke de Souza

Hi all,

ODTUG’s Technical Journal just released our article about our Kscope 14 presentation ā€œUnleashing Hyperion Planning Security Using ODIā€. In this article you will find all the details on how to dynamically setup Hyperion Planning security based on the application metadata repository information. Here is the abstract:

ā€œIn some Hyperion Planning projects, security becomes so complex that it takes more than just granting access to some security groups on the high-level members of the dimensions. Global companies often have the necessity to create multiple Planning applications to meet the diverse regions of the globe. However, what happens when the business requires a single application with a single plan type that contains cost centers from different regions around the entity hierarchy? Moreover, is that data restricted according to the region’s security group using only one attribute dimension? Furthermore, does each user need to see aggregated values correctly for your region only? This paper demonstrates how to generate and maintain leaf-level member security settings based on attribute dimension on a global Hyperion Planning application using only ODI and Hyperion Planning application metadata repository information.ā€

ODTUG’s Technical Journal is an excellent place whereĀ you can find awesome technical content for free! You just need to become a member (create a free login atĀ the ODTUG’s site). If you are not a member yet, I really recommend you to become one ASAP!

How Kscope/ODTUG changed my life

Posted in ACE, EPM, Kscope, ODTUG with tags , , on February 26, 2015 by Rodrigo Radtke de Souza

Hi all, today’s post is not a technical one, but rather a ā€œThank youā€ post toĀ Kscope/ODTUG for being responsible onĀ changing my life (for the better, of course!!!) in ways that I could not even dream before. I (Rodrigo) am doing the writing here but I’m certain that Ricardo thinks the same as me about it.

It all began when we were selected to present at Kscope13. I still remember how great was to see all those people that we would daily read their blog posts like Cameron, Glenn, Edward Roske and Tim Tow to name a few. They were standing right there and we could actually go and talk to them! The atmosphere around the event is so fantastic that you feel like home, everybody is there willing to talk about the best of the word’s technology. The conference stimulates this kind of networking and it is just priceless.

I must say that our DEVEPM blog mainly exists because of Kscope. Being selected to participate as presenters in the event kind of ā€œpushedā€ us to this blog’s creation and participating in the event showed us how important is to be active in the community. It may sound very clichĆ© but Kscope made us realize how good is to actually help others when they need and also showed us that every help (no matter how small) can bring benefits to everybody. Sometimes you may think that you don’t have enough knowledge to share with others, but in fact you always have something that can benefit someone.

Then we were selected again for Kscope14 and even before this event started, we have felt its benefits. Kscope stimulates networking, networking produces opportunities and in our case we were invited to be panelists of the second ā€œODTUG ODI Experts Panelā€ webinar. I was in the audience of the ā€œfirstā€ ODI Expert webinar panel and one year later I was there presenting as an ODI Expert! Again, it was only possible because Kscope gave us the unique chance to network and show our work to the community.

Kscope14 was just fantastic! People say that each Kscope gets better and better and it is completely true. Each conference expands your network, you get to know some very good friends and the fun and knowledge is always present there. Another benefit that I got from there (you may initially find it silly) was the Twitter usage. Surprisingly Kscope taught me how to be more ā€œsocialā€ and that Twitter could be an amazing tool to participate in the community and interact with other EPM folks. Everybody uses Twitter and there is a huge knowledge sharing that goes on every day. It may sound a small thing, but the benefits for my personal career are being huge.

And as I said, it always gets better. After Kscope14 we got a publication accepted for OTNArchBeat blog and we even did a 2MTT with them! I would never imagine myself doing that before my involvement with Kscope and it was very fun and fantastic! The last but definitely not the least benefit of being part of this community was the nomination that we received for the Oracle ACE program! Becoming an Oracle ACE Associate was something that was a very far (very, very, very far) dream that I had but I didn’t even knew where to start to look for it. Kscope once again was a mind opener, showed us that everything that we do, we do for the benefit of the community and that when we least expect, the rewards starts to come as a recognition for the value that you bring to other people.

This is just some highlights of how my life changed after Kscope entered in my life. If you want a life change opportunity do not hesitate and start participating. You do not need to be a presenter, you just need to be there and enjoy all the great opportunities that it has to offer. I don’t know if you all are aware of it, but we are from Brazil and for us it is very expensive to fly there, book a hotel, expend an entire week but it does worth every cent invested. It is more than a professional investment, it is a life changer.

I would like to thank again ODTUG for organizing this amazing event every year and a very special thanks to Cameron Lackpour. Cameron is one of ODTUG’s directors and has been our ā€œmentorā€ and a very good friend. He has believed in our work (sometimes much more than ourselves) and he always incentive us to do our best. ODTUG and the EPM community are lucky to have Cameron among them. Thank you my friend!

We hope to see all of you there! Don’t miss this opportunity! See ya!
